Guest entrance

We receive visits from family and friends as also from many other people who appreciate the quiet and friendly atmosphere of the monastery. The hidden presence of the community gives its prayerful support to all those whom it welcomes here. It is our hope that those who come to visit or stay with us will be able to return refreshed and renewed to their daily lives.

Applications can be made by letter or email to the Guest Sister. Please suggest alternative dates, if possible.

Accommodation in our guest hermitages is available for those who wish to spend a time of private retreat here, to share in the liturgy and prayer, or who would like to know more about our Carmelite calling. They can become heavily booked at certain times of the year so we recommend that you apply in good time beforehand if you possibly can.

peace cottage (interior)

Peace Cottage.  This is a modern cottage on the ground floor, with private garden. It comprises bedroom, sitting room, bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. It is suitable for up to three persons: one single bed in the bedroom, plus a convertible settee, which sleeps two, in the main room.

hermitage 3

Hermitage. A very small cottage on the ground floor, with private garden. It is suitable for one person only. It comprises bed-sitting room, kitchen and bathroom. The Hermitage adjoins Peace Cottage but has a separate entrance and both cottages enjoy complete privacy.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Both cottages are self-contained and all breakfast and dairy foods are supplied, together with: fresh fruit, tea, coffee, biscuits and a few other minimum requirements. We ask that you bring with you any other food you will need. We are happy to provide lunch from the monastery kitchen on request (this will be vegetarian) but all other meals are self-catering.

Our guest accommodation is outside the enclosure. The monastery precincts are not open to the public. But all guests are very welcome to attend daily Mass and the Divine Office either in the main body of the church or from the small visitors’ chapel which faces the nuns’ choir.

We do not conduct directed retreats although, if you wish to talk privately to a sister during your stay, this can be arranged.
We regret that no pets are allowed. We also respectfully ask that our visitors refrain from smoking indoors.

CHARGES

We have no fixed charge but rely on your generosity with regard to donations. We aim to provide something comparable to the usual facilities for ‘bed and breakfast’; we would therefore recommend between £50 – £55 per night as a guide for those who can afford it.
